"Give Mother Nature some Space!"

So I think as a prank toward all the complaining I've done over the weather, Mother Nature did take away some of the snow... and instead we had 50mph winds with intense hail, flash flooding on some streets, and some heavy thunder/lightening storms for a day and a half.... THEN
it went back to snowing.
And now we have 4 more storms in the forecast and not days getting warmer that the low 40's. I'm really not even complaining' I'm just stunned. Maybe even a little impressed.

My Uncle gave me some wise advice the other day:
"I think Mother Nature is going through something right now. My husband training has taught me to just step back, because I know I have zero control. Good luck with it."

~Wise words~

Travis:
I think it is safe to say that he has had a nice week. This month his hours are much lighter and most mornings he even has energy to get out of bed and see the boys before Maddix leaves for school. He is home in the evenings and got to make his famous Dad's Pizza the other night and we love that he has time to cook again (I've missed it).
He's been in charge of putting the kids to bed almost every night and we definitely have different tactics (i.e. I try to dim the lights, start doing calming activities, and take lots of time to let them bath, have book, song, and unwind in bed... Travis likes to play loud rock music and have jamming parties and wrestling matches with the kids until 10 mins to bedtime, rush them through a shower like a drill sergeant, and then just stay up late to get a good amount of reading in:) The boys sure love it when dad puts them to bed (I will note though that Aaron always begs for me to be the final one to tuck him and doesn't want anyone else :D.
Travis took the boys on a date to buy car parts and gummies; they then spent the afternoon installing an amp and subwoofer in his truck to improve his base
He actually got to go to basketball last week.
He was around enough to fix all the dead lightbulbs (it's the little things that make me seriously appreciate when he is actually at home)
He gave a wonderful F.H.E lesson on practicing/studying and compared learning to build an engine to the studying/practicing that goes into the Gospel; it was a real hit.
He's beyond thrilled be finishing up his last day on the O.B. floor (have I mentioned his detest for O.B.??); unfortunately, he's truly going out with a bang in that it's a full 24hr shift to end it. Boo
Hang in there Trav! You've got this!
(There is a VERY sweet pay-off moment coming up soon)

Lacey:
Elder Brian K. Taylor said it pretty well in this past conference,
"To those mothers feeling overwhelmed and underwater while struggling to raise a sin resistant generation... remember, Jesus said, 'Fear not, for I am with thee'."
I don't know how to describe it, I have a busier schedule than I've ran in years, and I have the HARDEST capstone class I have ever taken in school that is more time intensive and difficult than I could have imagined it would be. I'm doing mommy & me soccer with Aaron, coaching Maddix's soccer team, and I was literally just saying how I feel like I'm already underwater and it's just began to rain.
"Fear not, for I am with thee." I love that.
And you know, I truly am happy and so content in life right now. It's funny, but I only feel like I'm underwater when it comes to school, yet every other aspect in my life feels like it's at the rare moment when it's perfectly balanced. I feel blessed.
I wake up every morning excited to see my kids. I'm finding joy in making sure their after-school folders are open and ready to go, with a snack and fresh drink on the table before they walk in the door. I think it's fun to open the piano book up to a new page so Maddix can just sit down and have something new to practice.
I finally am content enough to just love being a mom; it's only taken me 7 years!
I am at that rare moment where I just don't want anything to change! Everyone is at such a pleasant stage, we're healthy, our schedule is jam packed with sporting events, lessons, activities, and so our home time has become coveted. I'm no longer dying to pack my schedule with artificial activities to get us out of the house; we're now at that stage naturally.
I. Love. It.
Aside from this all my spare time has been spent doing homework pretty much all day and going to the NLXF gym before everyone gets up in the mornings.

Maddix:
He has been so nice, both at home and at school. He truly seems more at ease, like he finally feels safe and loved at home; I love him.
He took it upon himself to get Addie out of her crib one time and change her bum.
He basically babysat all Saturday while I sat on the computer doing my latest project. During that time he and Aaron ate an entire bag of Pita chips... new bag. And the also got Adeline to belly laugh (her first)!
He actually let me dress him up for 50's Day at school; he rocked it.
He really liked working on the truck w/ Trav.
He wants to make his "special" for us for dinner, which consists of an open faced tortilla, covered in melting cheese... he he he.
His Friday Night Movie Choice: Pirates of the Caribbean 1
I bought the boys mini flashlights and at night he thinks he's being sneaky to turn it on under his covers and read his scriptures... but I wonder who snuck them into his pocketed pillow to begin with... ;)

Aaron:
Is completely stoked that it's finally his turn to be on a sports team! And he. is. awesome! Totally enthused, focused, teachable, and naturally amazing at soccer. Taking him to practice is probably one of my most favorite sporting experiences.
He got to attend a Kindergarten Kickoff where they tour the classrooms. He is so excited for all day Kindergarten (me, not so much).
He has decided to reject Winter. Almost every day, despite the weather he's been determined to ride his bike. And by darn, that's what he does!
He was the perfect Walmart Buddy the other day, and because Addie slept the whole trip, we took our time, found him some soccer shoes, and went down every toy isle before checking out.
He loved soccer pictures and ice-cream after as our date.
We'll be out of town next week so we moved his Friday Movie night to Saturday and he Chose Frozen, w/ Hot Choc. His choice was appropriate since it was blizzarding outside.
Oh and he may have had to draw a picture at school on bus safety because he thought it would be a good idea to crawl under the bus seats, like a spy... ( I secretly find it hilarious).
Loved playing at his friend, Jackson's house twice this week (thank you Arianna for having him over so he didn't just watch t.v. while i worked on my project!)

Adeline:
This girl.
:)
She is a supported sitter, and can stand if you hold her hands.
She is a fantastic sleeper and pretty routine (she gets up around 6:50am, naps from 9am-11:30am, naps from 1:15-3:30 or 4:00, and goes back to bed by 8:00), but refuses to do that third nap like babies typically do, and has also had a few nights in a row of waking up at 5am and talking to herself for about 30 mins before going back to sleep.
She has started rolling over!!! But not once has she done it so I can see :(
She had her first belly laugh, thanks to the boys (She found Aaron's hopping on one leg and singing to be pretty funny, as well as Maddix's toot while she was on his lap).
She eats all types of baby food now.
She is stably drinking when she wakes up, after her first nap, after her second nap, and a large bottle (8oz) just before bed.
Still LOVES bath time.
Tolerates tummy time now
Is sharing her voice a little more
And when we read her book before each nap, she likes it if I look at her after every page and then breaks out in a smile, like there's nothing else she'd rather be learning at that moment.
Oh, and she almost never stays under her covers anymore. Most the time I find her twisted the opposite direction, at the opposite end of the crib from where I left her.
She is a t.v./screen baby.
She can't go anywhere without a dozen people telling me how cute she is.. and I don't mind
We bought her some new clothes with our gap rewards and I can't wait for it to warm up so she can wear it all.

Only at Walmart, in Mason City!

Waiting for pictures

Couldn't handle the day anymore

Pink day at the Gym: I even had pink socks and shoes

her think lately has been touching my face
and it melts me heart!

THIS is how daddy puts the kids to bed :D!!

But who could get mad at the hansom face!

Spring Snow Helps The Flowers Grow?!?!

So apparently the saying for Iowa shouldn't be, "April showers bring May flowers." But instead should be, "April snow won't let plants grow; and May?
You never know!"
(It's currently storming a 6-8 inches...)

Highlights from the Week
Monday:
Being able to hold Maddix's first soccer practice in-between the snow storms

Tuesday:
Due to the 10 inch snow storm that arrived, school was cancelled. This didn't stop Aaron from wanting to ride his bike... which he did... right into the snow drifts and pretended he was having major crashes. We also revived our VERY messy house and made it spotless! The boys even cleaned with good attitudes!
Maddix's F.H.E. activity choice: Video games
Then they read a book with Gpa Vaughn via FaceTime, just before bed.

Wednesday:
It was a late start day because of more snow so the boys came up with fun games!
Travis and I both have youth callings in our ward, and it was combined activity; we were both able to go and play in the sports night:)
The kids enjoyed playing at Susan's.

Thursday:
It was a cold day, so Aaron and I took it easy and cuddled on the couch for a spell
Aaron's F.H.E activity (missed last week): Going to the McDonald's to get ice-cream/fries and play on the indoor play set. *As a bonus, there was a little boy with down syndrome there and the boys played with him perfectly. Before we left, his mom had tears and told me I had the sweetest boys in the world. Aaron invited her son back to play and this put a big smile on the boy's face :)

Friday:
~No school~
While at our dental apts. I absolutely LOVED watching Adeline's face as she watched the snow falling outside the windows!
We went to the library where we ran into some friends, so that was a fun surprise. And the best part was watching both the boys fill out application cards for their very own library cards! Then they signed their names on the back!! They're so excited!

Saturday:
I coached my first soccer game for Maddix's team, complete with Aaron and Addie with me. It was a bit nerve wrecking since my co-captain couldn't be there, but it went alright... even if the other coach pointed out that he could tell this was my first time and paused the game to teach me and our team a few rules I seemed to be hazy on..... but at least the parents seemed pleased enough at the end!
Maddix's lego set showed up, so that was what he did pretty much the rest of the day.
Aaron was bound and determined to play back outside before the next storm hit and told Maddix,
"Maddix, don't you know playing outside with your brother is more important than sitting inside playing with legos??"
So eventually Maddix went out and threw the ball to a VERY appreciative Nala, and Aaron rode his bike some more:) In the 20 degree weather... he is too funny.
At one point we all stopped what we were doing and just hid in the hall, watching Addie work on rolling over!! We seriously watched her for so long, and then the minute we left and came back... she had rolled over!!!! ah! I had missed it! But I did get to see her go from her tummy to her back! She is getting there!
And the best part of the day--> holding Addie on my lap, Aaron snuggled to my side, then Maddix snuggled into Travis's side as we all sat together reading the bedtime book... I have LOVED bedtime lately.

Sunday... the BEST day:
It was fast and testimony meeting. The boys quietly read books while I went up and bore my testimony on families. When I came back, Maddix asked if he could bare his testimony. I asked him if he knew what he was going to say and he began to debate if he should go or not. He decided to practice at home some more and try bearing his testimony next month. Then, out of nowhere, he decided to go. He reverently walked up and sat by the Bishop then delivered this testimony,
"I'd like to bear my testimony today that when I was younger I used to think you had to be perfect. But since then, I've learned that's not true. And that we can make mistakes and it's okay to mess up because Jesus made that possible. I have been trying very hard to do my best to be like Jesus. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen."
I had Aaron on my lap as I watched him walk back to us and tears just poured down my cheeks.
His was the last testimony of the meeting, and it really brought the spirit into the meeting; it was a perfect way to close.
I am so blessed.
Being a mom is not something everyone gets to do.
Being a stay at home mom is afforded to even less women.
I have both those things and feel like I have the greatest treasures in the world.
Thank you Travis for the life we've created together.
Thank you for working so hard and sacrificing sooOoo much so that we can live the life we have.
I wouldn't change a thing.
I am so grateful to my Heavenly Father.
And to my brother and savior, Jesus, for making it so we do not have to be perfect!

~St. Patty's Day/Spring Break/Chicago/Easter-Conference Weekend~

Man am I behind...
Here are the bigger highlights from the past month *in a nut shell.

sT. pAtTy'S DaY-
We rode bikes out front... and Aaron officially gave up the training wheels and is now riding a two-wheeler. That night we also invited our sweet Glenn and Susan, from next door to join us for a BBQ dinner at our church house; it was a fun day.

SpRiNg BrEaK-
Addie was mostly sick the whole week so we kept to ourselves, and honestly, I was okay with that. For the first time in my life I've become somewhat of a home body. I think our lives have become so busy that I really enjoy the days that we just stay home and DON'T have to go anywhere.

On top of this, it snowed.... well, it snowed the first day of the break. Then it all melted and we rode bikes by the final day... and then we got his with another storm (17.5 inches) just last weekend. And now it says it's going to snow 4 of our days this coming week. Man, I'm itching for Spring!

Chicago-
This was a wonderful experience for me and Adeline. I like that she got to go somewhere new that the boys haven't been too. Our trip started by flying on a propeller plane to Chicago where we met up with my mom. We rented a car and spent the night in our hotel: tired, enjoying each other's company, having my mom meet Adeline for the first time, talking, and watching Beauty and the Beast (live version).
Bright and early the next morning (4:20am) we had to begin our adventure to my brother's Naval Academy graduation! He just completed an 8 Week bootcamp and it is seriously something I admire him for. While he was there he experienced many hardships, didn't know if he could do it, but rose it above it all. And you know what? He said what he was most proud of is that he didn't swear once. He  attended church services, invited people to come with, handed up a few *books of Mormon, and said one of the guys is even getting baptized this summer; Way to go Colton! You can do hard things.
We were able to spend some time with him Friday and what he really wanted to do was get some Chicago famous Pizza and Ice cream, so that's what we did.
We then took him back, returned our rental, shuttled to the airport, walked back and forth across the airport too many times, spent our final hour together, and then reluctantly parted ways :( I'm so glad for the time I got to spend with both my mom and my brother. Adeline was a champ at both the military graduation and on the flight home (that being said, she did have crying fits before anyone of her naps she'd take in my arms... which got a little stressful). The pilot told me he was so impressed with her and that he never heard a peep; he even said they tried to land as smoothly as they could as not to wake her :) I love the Midwest hospitality out here. Seriously. From the MOMENT Travis left me at the airport to the moment Susan was dropping me off at my door, I was never without several people at a time doing their best to help me along my way. Endless people helped me through security checks, up and down stairs, to find my way where I needed to go, kept me company, etc. etc. God truly knows how much I need a village sometimes, and he never fails to bless with me kind people. And even BETTER than it all was walking into the airport and seeing both my boys come running over to me with arms wide open and genuinely joyous smiles! They squeezed me and repeatedly told me how happy they were I was home! They insisted I sit in the back of the van in-between them both. The whole ride home they had their arms wrapped around me, laying across me, and just kept smiling at me; it made it completely worth leaving just to have them so happy to have me home!!!

CoNfeReNcE dAy 1/TrIp To RoChEsTeR
After a short amount of sleep (and almost none for Travis, who was just returning from a night shift) we loaded in the car and drove up to Rochester for our Costco run. Two hours up, some shopping/samples/cafe lunch, and then two hours home. Unfortunately, we couldn't spend anytime up there because Travis had to be home in time to head back to work for his LAST night shift for months to come!!!! AH!!!!!! HE'S FINALLY OFF NIGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! --- This hardly expresses how happy we are that his nights are over with---
We listened to conference on the way up, and then finished it back home. Aaron slept through the whole 2nd session; someone was clearly wiped out from getting to bed at 11:30pm the previous night!

CoNfErEnCe DaY 2/EaStEr SuNdAy
Oh. My. Heavens. I loved today.
Before the boys could hunt for eggs, I wanted them to sit and watch a 7min video the church had posted on LDS.org about Christ and the first Easter. Aaron was less than happy about this, but Maddix very levelly said,  "Aaron, the whole reason we celebrate Easter is because of Jesus's Resurrection, what is it really to take a few minutes to watch a video about Jesus?" I was impressed.
We found our baskets, and eggs before waking Travis up to have bunny pancakes with us. We enjoyed conference, baked more food (including our new tradition: sugar cookie fruit pizza, shaped as an egg), watched more conference, ate, and then opened up our sports gear that the Easter Bunny got us/ we bought to usher in Spring! I love conference. I love that this year Easter and Conference fell on the same day; it was just extra special. AND I'm so glad Travis could be up an home with us for Conference this session :)

Maddix took it upon himself to teach Aaron
how to ride a two wheeler!
What a great brother!

First time having rice cereal w/ Mashed bananas!
