A Utah Surprise!!

For about 6 months Travis and I have been planning a 60th birthday surprise for his mom. For the past couple of months we’ve been doing our best not to blow it! The kids were champs and never even got close to blowing it, but Travis and I nearly ruined each and every time we talked to her! Travis and his brother who lives in Nevada convinced Lori that they would both be 1-taking med school exams and 2- Running kids to baseball tournaments on her bday so they’d try to remember to call her! Little did she know, we’d all purchases tickets or made plans to travel in for her birthday! The secret was buried so deep that in this past week of no one even hinting towards doing anything for her birthday, I think she was convinced nothing was going to happen.

In a last minute change of plans, Avery and I ended up staying behind because of the mask mandate they’re enforcing on 2 yr olds. And we’d decided to drive, but then decided against it. Long story short, she and I dropped everyone off at the airport and then made our way home!

Travis rented a jeep for the week while they’re in town and he said Addie just LOST it in the rental line because she was just so tired and fried from the day. They finally got to my dad’s just after 10:00pm at which point the kiddos ran around the house like “sodas that the plane shook up and they just exploded at the house” my dad’s words, not mine. There was a Princess day bed set up for Addie. Legos galore for the boys, a basement full of train sets, colorful bath bombs and manicure sets for Addie... a tent with twinkle lights inside it! Travis left them to spend the night and went to meet up with his siblings in front of his parents house. Once they were gathered together, they all snuck in to wake their mom up and surprise her with a midnight pancake breakfast!! Her reaction was hilarious and she was completely surprised to see all four of her children at the foot of her bed!

Yesterday we then surprised her with the second half of the surprise. She’d believed it was just travis who’d flown in for the weekend and when he thought she was getting suspicious that the kids might actually be there, I began texting her pictures from the baseball tournament (which my friend kept sending me and then I just forwarded on! Ha ha), so she was FLOORED when they all rang the doorbell and came in yelling “surprise! Surprise!! Happy birthday!” She was so excited! And we did it. We FINALLY kept a secret and didn’t give it away! They enjoyed her birthday party with all Trav’s siblings and their kids.

Today travis said they had a pancake breakfast, played wiffle  ball out back, and have walked the Provo River Trail. Later they have a Johnson dinner, then another dinner my dad’s with my siblings. The kids get to stay the night again and be spoiled out of their minds! Let a week of fun continue!!
