Michigan/Upper Peninsula Camping Trip

Enter my favorite part of summer.

We worked our booties off all summer between sports and our daily chores. We spent each summer morning completing 1- Hour of indoor work, 1- Hour of outdoor work, and 1- Hour of learning. It was rough going, but by the end of the summer we didn’t have all the complaining over having to do chores that we had at the beginning.

But now we were enjoying daily swim lessons, and although Avery was too young for actual lessons, the head guard had a sweet spot for her and constantly was brining her toys, taking her down the slides, playing with with her, and even started letting her go down the large slides all by herself!

And we also were in the middle of our cross-Country trailer trips! The previous trip took us to Missouri. This trip took us through Wisconsin and Michigan, and up into the upper peninsula (not too far from the Canadian border). It was the most beautiful trip. The water was crystal blue and frigid! The beach sand was soft and perfect. And the black sand beach was breathtaking; both for its beauty and its smell… it smelled horrible! Ha ha.

Highlights of this trip: paddle boarding and Travis having to go save Aaron who was caught in a riptide. Travis and the boys getting to go mountain biking/me and the girls swimming in the rain. Watching all my boys cliff dive off a 35ft cliff! Watching my little girls bike harder terrain than they’ve ever done (though there were many tears on this ride!). Just being in the middle of nowhere… and then finding “the world’s best pie” for lunch; yum. The crow that flew into our windshield and exploded everywhere! Snuggling everyone in the trailer while watching a movie. The lighthouse! The Eagle that flew over us just as we said, “this is so picturesque, now all we need is an Eagle…”

Just all of it, honestly. Then along the way home we stopped at the MOA and rode some rides, grabbed food, and I finally found my “perfect scent” after several years of searching. Let me explain: I don’t like perfume, but I love the idea of having one signature scent than when people  smell it they always think of you. Like after you die and your kids smell it, they instantly remember you! Ha ha weird, maybe. But I’ve been searching for that one smell I want to be remembered by and I finally found it. So we got it and saved it for an anniversary gift.

What a wonderful trip. I’m not a tent camper (you can thank three broken tailbones and a terrible back for that), but this camper has changed our whole outlook on camping. With the world continually getting crazier and more crowded, you’ll probably find us in the middle of nowhere far more often than you won’t!
