The last of our summer vacation

We came home from our Utah trip with two weeks of our summer vacation left. And lucky enough, Uncle Colton came home with us for one of those weeks. And bless his heart, he came during the WORST moods from kids who’d been on vacation for the past month and SUPERLY overtired! 😂

We took advantage of the weather and played outside for most our days. I think the highlight fir him was our trip down to the Iowa State Fair; the people watching is just unbearable. appreciated having Colton here to chat with, as well as watch the kids so I could run a million errands, and go out to dinner with Travis for our actual Anniversary (Happy 12 years, babe). The kids each had a little one-on-one time with Colton, whether it was snuggling through a movie, Star Wars talk, playing games, or water games in the backyard.  We just love U. Colton, and were so sad to see him go. It was like having to say goodbye to Utah again, as well move another step closer to closing our the summer.

After Colton left, I was ready to just recoup from the summer and let the kids have endless screen time while I put everything back in order, and prepare for the following school year; however, after just a couple of days of vegging Aaron noticed our “summer to do list,” and how it had a few unfinished items! And then our final few days were spent marathoning the rest of our summer activities! It was so fun. And I’m so grateful to him for motivating us into the last fun bits before school started. A few I remember:
1- Play at East park
2- Order cookies from Cookies Etc.
3- play at the Clear Lake park
4- Read a book as a family on the law
5- collecting fossils from Rockford fossil dig
6. Go Fishing
7- Feed the ducks… we had to try three different locations before we even found any!

And just like that, summer break was over.
