~From Iowa to Utah~

What an incredibly busy, but FUN, and tiring, but EVENTFUL week this as been. There was so much cleaning, shopping, packing, prepping, and stressing over doing the drive from Iowa to Utah by myself (I had Tessa, blessedly), without Travis.

Monday: The boys were crazy ornery due to late nights and busy days. The boys went to a friends so Tessa and I could prep. That night we attended Maddix's last baseball game, accompanied by two of Travis's friends from the hospital, who were sweet enough to even make a giant sign; Maddix felt like a rock star!

Tuesday: This was the REAL marathon of errands. Sprinkle in a birthday-park outing, and Travis's Residency dinner (where we said goodbye to the 3rd years and celebrated that Travis is no longer the  bottom-most rung at the hospital) at the Park-Inn Hotel and we went to bed exhausted.

Wednesday: We hit the road bright and early. We drove through Iowa, Minnesota, and into South Dakota where we reached Mt. Rushmore 9hrs later (boys made it 4 1/2hrs without needing a movie). I have to say, Mt. Rushmore did not disappoint. We hiked around for a few hours and ate ice cream, made from Thomas Jefferson's original recipe (also the first ice cream recipe in America; he was also the ice cream founding father). Back on the road we drove another 4hrs, always teetering on the edge of entering this rolling thunderstorm to the left of us, and praying we could keep to the right where there were endless blue skies until we reached Casper, WY.... what a dump!

Thursday: The moment we left the hotel we lost all internet and cellphone connection and ended up on the wrong freeway, heading the wrong direction. We only went up one mile before I was prompted to turn around and go back to the hotel to connect to their internet. There I was able to pull up directions and snap pictures of them to use until we regained some service. An hour later we were at Independence rock (a pioneer landmark with names from many past pioneers carved into it) in Wyoming, and 6hrs later we safely in Provo, Utah. And once again, by the time we hit Heber Nala perked up and started looking out the windows and whining because she knew she was home:)

Friday: Woke up in our wonderful rooms at my dad's, a little exhausted, but excited to see family. We took a lazy morning just playing out front with a train set and having a water fight before going to a movie with my dad, Wendy, and her parents. We saw Despicable Me 3 and since then Aaron keeps trying to "Dance Fight" everyone.

Saturday:  My dad dragged my sorry, out of shape self up some hills for an early 3mile run before we all cleaned up and went to my sweet cousin Bella's baptism; this was an incredibly special day and probably the highlight of our whole trip. Afterward, we had a mini family reunion that started with a luncheon (where Aaron and my cousin Grant decided to bak at each other like chickens, have a dance fight, and basically scrap like puppies). We then divided into teams and went on a family history oriented scavenger hunt that ended at a bowling alley where we then bowled; Aaron had the most fun of anyone there, and Maddix was so excited over his spare! We ended the night back at my dad's for a BBQ with Wendy's family. Nana Merilyn and Papa Ken were kind enough to bring presents for the boys, and in the dark it was hard to tell they were tool bags, so Aaron's reaction was, "You got me a purse?!"

Sunday:  Church. Naps. Ultimate Nerf Gun wars with Uncle Alex and Uncle Colton (who randomly showed up and spent the day with us; which we loved). And hopefully some manicures and pedicures tonight after the boys are in bed.

Week 1 of Ultimate Summer Celebration: Crushed!

Trav's fellow residents in his class

10 mins at my dad's and Aaron had already tumbled down the
hill and scuffed his nose... we started last summer with
a scuffed nose also!

20 weeks exactly
:)

We love you Robert, Melissa, and Bella!
